I am the husband of one and the homeschooling father of five. I am a singer, songwriter, and a worship leader who plays guitar and piano. I am the Executive Director of Trinity Arts Center, a small Christian Arts Academy in Eastern Tennessee. I'm also a guitar teacher and -- I spend about half my time building web sites and helping companies organize their thoughts, fine tune their products, and turn their customers into company evangelists. I've been involved with four music projects in my life -- Hot Pink Turtle, Spin Radio, Stand Like Stone, and of course, Jamin Rathbun. I'm also training to be an Ultimate Fighter (that's not true). = )
The "Innovative" Church vs. The Apostle Paul
Now there's a title designed to pick a fight eh?
Now there's a title designed to pick a fight eh?
I stumbled across this artcle on Slice Of Laodicea today. It's worth a read but I wish he wouldn't have attempted to turn it into an attack on big churches. I'm not going to debate the author here but... I felt the need to add a couple notes:
- I notice that Jim doesn't use the New Living Translation in any of the other posts I saw on his site. His use, in this case, seems suspicious since the language in other more popular translations (NIV, NASB, or KJ) doesn't support his point nearly as well. = )
- The passage Jim cites (1 Corinthians 2:1-5) continues to state that we do use "wisdom" among the mature and that the Spirit helps us to speak "spiritual truths in spiritual words." Context, context, context...
By the way... the end of that passage in 1 Corinthians reminds me of another passage, not related to this topic but -- a good one none-the-less:
Romans 11:33-36
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

So says AskANinja.com in their podcast answering a question from "people over the age of 12." Really funny stuff here!
